Welcome to Science Class! I teach both 7th grade Life Science and 8th Grade Physical Science. This is my 3rd year at Helena Middle School and I am looking forward to another fun year of exploration and learning!

Science isn’t simply a body of knowledge; it is a process of investigating and a way of constructing understanding about the natural world.

In Science class, you will take on the role of scientists, developing your critical thinking skills and engaging in the practices that real-life scientists and engineers use every day in their jobs. Be prepared to ask questions, make observations, develop ideas and models, design prototypes, communicate your findings, and have fun!

 

IMPORTANT CLASS INFORMATION

All classwork will be assigned on paper, on the Microsoft Teams class page, or Amplify.

Below are the locations where class resources, assignments, and information will be posted:

1. Microsoft Teams-   Students should check this frequently for class announcements, resources, lesson summary slides, and assignments. When students are absent, they can use the science notebook slide to catch up on any notes missed that day. Students should communicate with me via Teams chat with any questions or to inform me that they have turned in late/absent/corrected classwork.
2. Clever- This is the platform students use to access all digital curriculum, PowerSchool, Microsoft 365, and other applications frequently used by teachers. Students must use Clever to access Amplify Science– our course curriculum. Clever allows students to access digital school resources on a home computer.
3. Amplify – This is our digital Science curriculum. Resources needed to complete assignments may be located in the digital curriculum. Some classwork will be assigned in Amplify. Feedback on student assignments completed in Amplify will be posted here. If students choose to re-do assignments to improve their score, they will need to refer to my comments in the teacher feedback. Please take some time to become familiar with how to view assignments and teacher feedback.

Welcome to 8th Grade Physical Science!

This year, you will be learning about energy, forces and motion, magnetism, electricity, gravity, phase changes, chemical reactions, light waves, and more. We use Amplify Science and other resources to guide our explorations and investigations into the wonders of the world. Our goal is that by the end of our time together you will be confident in investigating, designing, discussing, reading, writing, and visualizing like scientists and engineers.
