Welcome to Helena High School and the 2025-26 school year! I am excited to be your math teacher this year. This website will have important information and links including our weekly agenda (to the left under your class link). I will post class materials to the Teams page so check there for any videos, notes or assignments.
Go Bengals!
THIS MONTH IN ALGEBRA 2:
FEBRUARY
This month students will finish Chapter 5: Rational Exponents and Radical Functions. In this chapter, students will review all necessary rules and properties for simplifying and manipulating rational exponents and radicals. Students will also solve radical equations and inequalities, graph radical and rational functions, and investigate inverse functions. The Chapter 5 Test will be Friday 2/6.
After Chapter 5, we will start right in on Chapter 6, Exponential and Logarithmic Functions. In this chapter students will extend what they have learned about inverse functions in Chapter 5 to explore the relationship between exponential and logarithmic functions. Students will graph both types of functions and work with transformations of both functions. Finally, students will solve exponential and logarithmic equations. There will be a special emphasis throughout the chapter on real world connections of these functions. There will be 3 checkpoints in this chapter: 6.1-6.3 on Wednesday 2/18, 6.4-6.5 on Thursday 2/26, and 6.6-6.7 on Thursday 3/5. The Chapter 6 Test will be on Tuesday 3/10.

THIS MONTH IN GEOMETRY:
FEBRUARY
This month in Geometry, students are working through Chapter 7: Proportions and Similarity. In this chapter, students will first define similarity between two polygons. Then, students will narrow their focus to specifically study similarity between two triangles. Students will use proportions throughout the chapter to calculate side lengths (and other measures) of similar triangles. There will be two checkpoints in this chapter: 7.1-7.3 on Tuesday 2/3 and 7.4-7.7 on Thursday 2/12. The Chapter 7 summative test will be Wednesday 2/18.
After Chapter 7, we will move into Right Triangles and Trigonometry (Chapter 8). Students will study the unique relationships between sides and angles in right triangles. We will cover the three primary trigonometric ratios, Sine, Cosine, and Tangent. Students will then use these relationships to extend their understanding to non-right triangles. Throughout Chapter 8, there will be multiple connections between trigonometry and real-world problems. There will be two checkpoints in Chapter 8: 8.1-8.3 on Thursday 2/26 and 8.4-8.6 on Friday 3/6. The Chapter 8 Test on Wednesday 3/11.
