Jason Hartwick
Hello I am Mr. Hartwick, I teach Woodworking, Carpentry, and Welding I.
My classes are designed to teach students, basic skills, as well as some advanced skills. After taking my classes your students will have a basic understanding of workshop safety, fundamentals in woodworking, welding, and general construction. These skills can serve them well throughout their lives, weather they choose to go into the construction field or not. they will have knowledge of use of tools and how to take pride in their work, and to build items using sound, industry accepted, building practices.
Fundamental Woodworking & Design
Fundamental Woods is a beginning level class that covers woodworking from measuring, drafting and design, to construction of projects. In this class you will be using self-drawn blueprints to create projects. So good measuring skills, accurate drawing techniques, and sound and safe building practices are emphasized. Safety is one of the most important things in a workshop so it will be covered extensively and students will have safety quizzes on each piece of equipment.

Intermediate Carpentry & Cabinetmaking
Intermediate Carpentry is for students that have a good working knowledge of woodshop. This is our 2nd level in woodshop, and while Fundamental Woods is not required for grades 10 -12, it is highly recommended. This takes the essentials that were learned in Fundamentals and applies them to bigger and more detailed projects. This is a 2-period block so that allows us to work on larger scale, and more finish carpentry type projects. Safe machine use will be paramount, and industry standard building practices will be emphasized.

Advanced Carpentry & Cabinetmaking
Advanced Carpentry class is a continuation of Intermediate carpentry. Students in this course, should have previous knowledge of drafting, house framing, Woodshop machinery, and finish cabinetry. The students will have continued hands-on experience using the different woodworking processes and various power tools, learned in Intermediate Carpentry. Good shop procedures and proper safety practices will be emphasized throughout the course. Students will mentor younger students in class projects ranging from shed construction, to in house remodels and also designing and building projects throughout the community.

Welding I
Welding I class is an introduction to the most common types of welding procedures. The student will have hands on experience using different welding processes such as arc, oxy-acetylene, and wire feed welding. Good shop procedures and proper safety practices will be emphasized throughout the course. Students will learn through extensive practice in their respective shop stations, and also through demonstrations, classroom learning, and small beginning level projects.
