6th Grade Computer Applications & Art
This Computer Applications course gives students an opportunity to explore and utilize the ever-evolving 21st Century technology skills with confidence. The course is designed to encourage and enable students to feel comfortable using computer applications that will benefit them now and in the future. Using a problem-based learning approach, students are engaged in interdisciplinary activities that are meaningful and authentic.
The middle school art program provides an integrated sequence of art instruction and experiences intended to instill in each student the skills and information needed to ensure a lasting appreciation of the importance of art in our lives. This course will teach students a variety of practical skills such as drawing, art history, elements, perspective, color theory, and sculpture.
7th Grade Health
This semester-long course promotes health literacy by teaching mental, emotional, and social health; body systems and how they function; disease prevention and control; family life; and human sexuality. In these units, students will acquire knowledge about their own health and assume responsibility for it. Some of these skills include decision-making, information access, interpersonal communication, analyzing influences, setting goals, and dealing with personal health problems.
Note: The health course does cover sensitive topics such as sexual intercourse, contraception, sexuality, gender, pregnancy, sexual harassment, sexually transmitted infections, HIV/AIDS, physical violence, emotional abuse, substance use and abuse, and suicide.
