Grade 6 Course Descriptions
Computer Applications
The semester-long Computer Applications course is meticulously designed to equip students with the skills necessary to confidently navigate and leverage the rapidly evolving technologies of the 21st Century. The course curriculum is designed to create a proficient and comfortable setting where students can engage with applications that will prove beneficial in their current and future professional pursuits. Participants will receive an in-depth introduction to a broad spectrum of Microsoft Applications, be taught the principles of Digital Citizenship, and learn to harness the power of computers as a potent tool for problem-solving.
Art
The semester-long art program for middle school students offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to impart a deep understanding and appreciation of art. The course is structured to provide students with essential artistic skills and knowledge, covering areas such as drawing techniques, the study of art history, artistic elements, perspective, color theory, and the fundamentals of sculpture. Participants in this program will be endowed with the essential tools to recognize and value the significant role that art plays in human civilization.
Grade 7 Course Descriptions
Health
The Health course offers a robust curriculum designed to enhance understanding of key health topics, ranging from personal wellness and emotional health to comprehensive studies in human anatomy and medical terminology. Students will also explore critical issues such as substance abuse, disease prevention, and aspects of human sexuality and sex education. The program is crafted to equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively manage and make informed decisions about their health.
Note: The health course addresses a range of sensitive subjects, including sexual intercourse, contraception, sex and gender, pregnancy, sexual harassment, sexually transmitted infections, physical violence, emotional abuse, substance use and abuse, and understanding the issues concerning suicide and mental health.
Life Skills
The Life Skills curriculum is an extensive program aimed at equipping students with essential knowledge and capabilities for effective life management. Through project-based instruction, students engage in activities that enhance their higher-order thinking, communication, and leadership skills, which have a profound impact on families and communities. The curriculum covers a broad range of topics including interpersonal relationships, career planning, community involvement, family dynamics, nutrition and wellness, management of consumer and family resources, as well as food production and services.
