Kim Cohn

Welcome to 8th grade English on the Vigilante team.  I want to take a minute to introduce myself as your child’s 8th grade English teacher.  I know we’re going to have a wonderful year and I look forward to getting to know you and your child. 8th grade is such a transitional year as students mature at the realization that next year they will no longer be in middle school.

My name is Kim Cohn.  I have been teaching for 32 years…HOLY COW!! Although I’ve been at this quite a while, I seem to learn more about this job with each class that comes through my door.  I can tell you that MY education continues with each student that I have the privilege of “teaching”. I’m sure this year will be no different!

I began my teaching career in a little elementary school in eastern Montana. I taught “out east” for 10 years, grades 2 – 4, where the learning curve was quite steep. While there, I met my future husband (who was actually from Helena), and his son, Tommy.  A year after getting married, we expanded our family with a daughter, Paige, and completed it (or so we thought) with our son, Christian.

While the solitude in the east was peaceful, the mountains of western Montana were calling us.  We moved to Helena, to be with my husband’s mother, so I continued my love of teaching at CR Anderson Middle School.  While here, I have taught remedial math and reading, 7th grade English and this will be my 1st year teaching 8th grade English.

Seven years after moving to Helena, I had another child, Kaden.  He is a 10th grader at Helena High School and loves weight lifting, football, and of course, like most 16 year olds…computers. Having a child at an older age has kept my husband and me feeling young, as well as kept us connected to the younger generation.

In our free time, my husband and I enjoy spending time with our family which includes our adult children, Paige and Tom, Jr. and his wife Meghan, our highschooler, Kaden and our 3 grandchildren, Isaac, Blaine and Eli. We spend a lot of time in the fall and winter traveling to football and basketball games that the boys are involved in. We also enjoy traveling out of the country to warm, beachy places…especially in the winter.

Thank you for trusting me with your child’s education this year.  I will do everything in my power to make sure that s/he has the absolute BEST 8th grade year possible.  Please feel free to contact me at any time during the school year.
