Kathryn Haddock

Welcome! I’m Kathryn Haddock, your Math teacher for the 2019-2020 school year. This is my sixteenth year in the district and at C. R. Anderson Middle School. I look forward to getting to know each of you and to helping you further develop your mathematics and problem solving skills.

I value education, and as such I am a lifelong learner. I hold two Bachelor’s degrees – one in Communications with a minor in Theatre Arts and one in Elementary Education – as well as a Masters in Mathematics Education for grades 5-12.

I have two amazing children – my son is in 8^th grade, and my daughter is in 4th grade – and we have three pets – a dog and two kittens. My hobbies include cross stitching, reading, solving puzzles, cooking and writing (mainly fiction and memoir).

Supplies

You will need the following supplies for class every day. Please have these supplies as soon as possible.

2 Composition notebooks (one per semester)
Folder or binder section for math only
Loose-leaf notebook paper (lots!)
Pencils (don’t forget extra lead for mechanical pencils)
Colored pens (for correcting)
Duct tape and paper bag book cover

Technology Expectations

Students are expected to follow the school rules for appropriate use of technology. If a student uses technology inappropriately, he/she will lose the privilege of using it in class. If a student’s use of technology is interfering with his/her ability to learn, his/her personal technology may be confiscated until the end of class or (if it becomes a chronic issue) until the end of the school day.

Calculators can be used only on certain assignments in order to prepare you for the state assessments in the spring. You will be notified when you are allowed to use a calculator. Using a calculator when one is expected to complete the calculation mentally or with paper and pencil is considered cheating.

When using a calculator, problems must still be set up with the mathematical process clearly shown. Each step in the problem must be written down before going on to the next step. (For example: Solve (3 x 4) + 10/5. (12) + 10/5; 12+ 10/5; 12 + 2; 14.)

How to Make Corrections for FULL CREDIT

Use a NEW piece of paper. No half sheets or scraps please.
Head your paper correctly (your name, period, date, and assignment in the upper right corner).
Redo all of the problems you got wrong. Show your work!
Staple the corrections in front of your original assignment.
Put the papers in your class period’s “Correction” basket within one week.
