Hello, I teach English I, English II and Peer Mentoring.
Bruin Beginnings took place over 2 days on August 31 for A Day students and September 1 for B Day students. It looked way different than past years but gave the upperclassmen an opportunity to answer questions for the freshmen and show them around the school. Most of each day was spent with freshmen attending 25 minute classes in order to meet teachers and figure out their schedule in advance of the rest of the school. Hopefully, the leaders were able to make the freshmen feel welcomed and more comfortable in starting the year.
This class normally would have buddies at two elementary schools–in connection with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Helena. This year is different. We will have to wait and see if we can do a pen-pal program with buddies or if we need to find other ways to do service. Meanwhile, Peer Mentors will follow up with freshmen on how they are doing in their first weeks of school.
Link Crew is the name of the program that puts on Bruin Beginnings–our CHS new student orientation.
Link Leaders are juniors and seniors who want to help freshmen and new students transition into our school. Leaders should be responsible, work well with others and have a good attitude about school and CHS.
We will be recruiting again for the 2021-22 Bruin Beginnings in the spring. An application is required.
