Megan Lane

Hello and welcome to 7th Grade Life Science!

I’m Megan Lane and I’m so excited to have your student this year as we investigate topics like cells, ecology, evolution, anatomy, microbiology, and genetics. I’ve been teaching biology for over twenty years now, with the majority of my career spent teaching here at CRA. I LOVE this age group and feel so lucky that I get to spend my days with such awesome students. Their insights, humor, and curiosity make my job a joy!

I am married to Scott Lane, who teaches Ceramics at Capital High School. We have three children who all attend Helena Public Schools (our daughter is in high school and our twin boys are in elementary school). We spend lots of time camping, hunting, and hanging out with our extended families. My favorite thing to do when I have free time is reading, reading, and more reading:)

For my students, my goal is to make science as relevant and hands-on as possible, so we do lots of labs and hands-on activities in this class. Your students will also be involved in research that is contributing to our global knowledge of bacteriophages through a collaboration with Montana Tech that is now eighteen years strong. And NEW for 2024-25, we will also be collecting plant growth data from our classroom for NASA and the International Space Station. I am extremely excited about this new opportunity for my students!!

Mrs. Hagengruber and I are also the Science Olympiad Coaches here at CRA. Your 7th grader may be invited to apply for the team this year. More information will be coming about SciO in December.

I hope that this web page can be a great resource throughout the year. The “Class Agenda” will allow you to view our daily Agenda, Journal Topic, and Learning Targets (the most recent Agenda will always be at the top). I update this document daily. Scroll to the bottom of this page (under the pictures) to find this link. The Daily Agendas are especially helpful if you’re helping your student get caught up after an absence.

I have also included a few additional documents: Life Science Class Info (this is the packet you signed & returned to school), a brief overview of our Life Science content/units, and details about Journal requirements and grading. Scroll to the bottom of this page to find those documents.

Please reach out any time with questions or concerns (see the contact tab to the upper left).

I’m looking forward to an awesome year with your students!
