Michele Serumgard

Hello, Welcome to HMS and to Mrs. Serumgard’s classes.  This is my 25th year teaching at Helena Middle School.  I teach 7th grade Social Studies which is Eastern Hemisphere Geography with a focus on the continents of Europe, Africa and Asia. All of my assignments are on TEAMS which students should access through CLEVER.  Graded assignments will also be listed on PowerSchool.  My Weekly Agenda will give an overview of each week’s activities. Students have access to the weekly agenda through TEAMS, advisor email and here on my teacher webpage. Our primary “textbook” is T.C.I which students access through Clever.  Mr. Blaz and I supplement with the McGraw Hill textbook: “Discovering World Geography”.

For the last decade. I have served as the school coordinator for the National Geographic Society’s classroom and school wide Geography Bees. HMS has had numerous students qualify and participate at the state level and a few at the national level. Unfortunately, the National Geographic Society has decided to permanently cancel all future Geography Bees.  This is disappointing as HMS has held the school wide competitions for more than 30 years.  Many students, teachers and community members look forward to it.  Instead, the National Geographic Society will be putting together some resources for educational use.
