Welcome to 6th grade at Helena Middle School!

I have the pleasure of teaching your child math this year! We have a strong 6th grade team and look forward to all we will accomplish during the year. Thank you, in advance, for all you do to support your student on his/her educational journey! It’s definitely going to take teamwork between us to find the highest level of success.

Welcome! I am so excited to have you in my math class this year. Math will look and feel a lot different as we work to build our thinking classroom! This page will be your guide to finding everything you need to proceed through this course.

I will use the following online locations to make information, resources, and assignments available to students and families.

A little about me: I was born and raised in Billings, MT, graduating from Skyview High School. I was a typical 80’s/90’s kid spending hours outside riding bikes, gallivanting through the neighborhood, playing driveway basketball, and exploring the rims! I played both basketball and softball and was involved in Student Council and FCA. Carroll College was the next stop in my educational journey where I earned a degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in middle school math. My path didn’t lead me straight into the teaching field however. I spent the next 7 years of my life working full time for the Montana Army National Guard; I loved every moment of being a soldier. Becoming a mom changed many of my goals – it was then, I decided to enter the education world. I spent 11 years teaching 6th grade math at Helena Middle School. During that time I earned my master’s degree from Walden University in Teaching Reading and Mathematics. I then taught 5th grade math at Rossiter Elementary for 4 years. During this time I became a National Board Certified Teacher in Young Adolescent Mathematics. I am excited to return to my teaching roots and look forward to my second year back at HMS.

I have been married to my wonderful husband, Mike, for almost 23 years. We have two boys, Trysten (20) and Tycen (18). I’m also blessed with two amazing stepchildren, JD (28) and Haylee (25). All four are products of the Helena School District and enjoyed their journeys through Four Georgians/Rossiter, CR and Capital High. JD works in Helena while Haylee is in her second year of Physical Therapy School at the University of Montana. Trysten is in his second year studying Business and playing baseball at Wenatchee Valley College in Wenatchee, WA. Tycen is studying Marketing and Media Design while competing in football at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. Our family is rounded out with our golden retriever, Bogie!
