Welcome to 6th grade at Helena Middle School!

I will have the pleasure of teaching your child math this year! We have a strong 6th grade team and look forward to all we will be able to accomplish during the year. Thank you, in advance, for all you do to support your student on his/her educational journey! It’s definitely going to take teamwork between us to find the highest level of success.

Welcome! I am so excited to have you in my math class this year. Math will look and feel a lot different as we work to build our thinking classroom! This page will be your guide to finding everything you need to proceed through this course.

I will use the following online locations to make information, resources, and assignments available to students and families.

  1. Mrs. Mooney’s Webpage – please take a few minutes to explore this page and see what is available here.
  2. Clever – Clever is a launch point for students to access Microsoft Office 365 (student Outlook email, Teams, Word, etc), curriculum resources, PowerSchool, and so much more! Please take time to explore Clever and see what is available there.
  3.  Microsoft Teams– posted here will be the weekly assignment schedule any instructional videos, resources, and class announcements. Students should use the Teams Chat to ask me questions or seek assistance.
  4. Core Focus on Math – This is our online math textbook. Student log in: user name – helena, password – math.
  5. PowerSchool– upcoming assignment title and due date, score of graded assignments, overall class letter grade. I will update grades in PowerSchool once a week.

A little about me: I was born and raised in Billings, MT, graduating from Skyview High School. I was a typical 80’s/90’s kid spending hours outside riding bikes, gallivanting through the neighborhood, playing driveway basketball, and exploring the rims! I played both basketball and softball and was involved in Student Council and FCA. Carroll College was the next stop in my educational journey where I earned a degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in middle school math. My path didn’t lead me straight into the teaching field however. I spent the next 7 years of my life working full time for the Montana Army National Guard; I loved every moment of being a soldier. Becoming a mom changed many of my goals – it was then, I decided to enter the education world. I spent 11 years teaching 6th grade math at Helena Middle School. During that time I earned my master’s degree from Walden University in Teaching Reading and Mathematics. I then taught 5th grade math at Rossiter Elementary for 4 years. This is my first year back at HMS; I feel like I’ve come home.

I have been married to my wonderful husband, Mike, for almost 22 years. We have two boys, Trysten (19) and Tycen (17). I’m also blessed with two amazing stepchildren, JD (28) and Haylee (25). JD works in Helena while Haylee is in her second year of Physical Therapy School at the University of Montana. Our family is rounded out with our new golden retriever puppy, Bogie!
