Periods 1-3 Industrial Tech
Industrial Technology – This is a semester long class that meets every day. This is an exploratory class that will introduce students to a variety of “hands-on” experiences in a shop environment. The three major units that are covered are:
Unit #1 – Drafting & Design which includes: ruler reading, drafting, intro to hand and power tools, and two take home projects, a small coat rack and a small CO2 powered race car.
Unit #2 – Metals which includes: intro to Wire feed welding, intro to Plasma cutting and a take home project, a metal flower.
Unit #3 – Computer Aided Design (CAD) which includes: intro into computer aided design using a drawing program on the computers here at HMS and two take home projects, a nameplate and puzzle.
There will be a project fee of $20.00 to cover the cost of materials for the class. Scholarships are available if a student is unable to pay the fee.  If a student chooses to take both the Industrial Tech class (Per. 1, 2 or 3) and the Industrial Tech Project class (Per. 5 or 6) the total cost for both classes would be $30.
Industrial Tech Project syllabus
Periods 5-6 Industrial Tech Project
Industrial Technology Project – This is a class that meets every other day for the entire year. In this elective course, students will be introduced to a wide variety of activities dealing with basic construction, woodworking and safety in a shop environment. The major units of focus will be:
Unit #1 – Drafting and Design which includes ruler reading and drafting.
Unit #2 – Intro to hand and power tools which includes: hand and power tool operation and safety, and one take home project a hand made cell phone amplifier made out of wood.
Unit #3 – House Plans (CAD) which includes: learning how a basic house plan should look and understanding basic drawing commands in the Revit drawing program, each student will be required to draw a ranch style house with 1900 – 2000 sq. ft. using the Revit drawing program.
Unit #4 – Framing a structure which includes: intro to basic wall framing and terminology, drawing to scale a mini wall and the project will have each student construct the wall they drew to the proper scale.
Unit #5 – Bridge Engineering and Construction which includes: basic bridge terminology, designing your own bridge and each student will construct their own bridge using their own design, all bridges will be tested for strength.
Unit #6 – Welding which includes: learning how to use both a wire feed welder and a plasma cutter, designing and making a metal flower will be the take home project.
Unit #7 – CAD (Computer Aided Design) which includes: learning a basic CAD drawing program called aspire, each student will design and cut a lightswitch cover
Unit #8 – Electrical wiring which includes: learning basic terminology and safety of electricity and electrical wiring, students will wire and test different assigned electrical circuits.
