Jilyn Chandler, a lifelong Montanan, has built her career around a deep passion for education and community.

After earning her B.A. in Multidisciplinary Studies from Texas Lutheran University and studying abroad at the University of London, she began her teaching career in a bilingual 5th grade classroom in Texas before returning home to Montana to teach middle school math and coach high school softball in Missoula. While there, she earned both her M.Ed. and Ed.D. from the University of Montana, with her dissertation, Predictability of Teacher Retention in Montana’s Rural Elementary Schools, highlighting her love for small town Montana schools. During her time at The Univeristy of Montana she also had the opportunity to be part of many research projects and national presentations pertaining to school finanace, school funding, and the Native American Achievement Gap.

Jilyn went on to serve as a K–12 principal in Lincoln and later as a school administrator in Helena for 14 years. Following the challenges of Covid, she felt called back to the classroom and has been teaching middle school math at CR Anderson since the fall of 2022, where she continues to inspire students and invest in the community she loves.

In her spare time, you can find Jilyn on the river and spending time with her two daughters and husband.
